COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Red Lodge Middle School Principal Jason Reimer launched Red Lodge — The Podcast to share local stories. The next episode featuring former student Burke Mastel, who discussed his team’s national championship win, will stream Tuesday, Jan. 13.  KTVQ
  • Federal childcare payments remain frozen, leaving Montana providers like Billings' Little Seeds Early Childhood Learning Center unsure if necessary funds will arrive, which may raise costs for the 60 families relying on Best Beginnings. Providers hope the pause is resolved before next month's scheduled payments to avoid interruptions in care.  KTVQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teacher Kennedy Stanton at Central Heights Elementary was honored today by the 'One Class at a Time' program for her work boosting student confidence. The Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools, Western Security Bank and City Brew Coffee awarded her a ($500 grant and $150 gift card).  KTVQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Because of an unusually warm winter, some bears in Western Montana are still active when they would normally seek dens; Fish, Wildlife and Parks advises residents to secure attractants + remain bear aware as bears may move toward suburban areas in coming weeks.  KULR8
  • CHS was fined for years of toxic wastewater failures that endangered Yellowstone River drinking water, as a consent order noted risks to human health and the environment.  Billings Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana homeowners can now apply for the 2026 Homestead Reduced Rate for permanent tax relief. Homeowners must live in their home at least seven months in 2026 (those who received the 2025 rebate qualify automatically).  KULR8

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Billings mental health group called Redefining Love has hosted free weekly workshops in small groups since September to make therapy more accessible. Founder Sara Beth Wald said the sessions cover topics like forgiveness and grief — giving participants a less intimidating introduction to talk therapy.  KTVQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Montana State claimed its first FCS national title since 1984 by defeating Illinois State 35-34 on Jan. 5 in Nashville; Coach Brent Vigen and Billings native Paul Brott recapped the game + its impact on the team and local fans in the new Bobcat Insider.  KTVQ
