  • Montana Rescue Mission in Billings launches 2026 with new Executive Director Dyann Romeijn — committed to rebuilding trust by improving data on homelessness and exploring shelter capacity expansion amid challenges with overcapacity in colder months.  KULR8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Employees at King Avenue West Billings Starbucks are set to vote to unionize. If approved, the store will join more than 660 unionized Starbucks nationwide and become Montana’s third unionized location — following union votes in Missoula.  Billings Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Billings First Congregational Church was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places, marking Yellowstone County’s first religious building on the historic list. Church leaders say the designation supports its longstanding role amid downtown development.  KULR8

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Since Jan. 1, 2022, legal adult use marijuana sales have surpassed $1 billion as medical sales fell sharply. Data from the Montana Department of Revenue shows nearly $60 million in tax revenue — driven by a 20% tax on adult use.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Billings residents had their water turned off Monday for unpaid bills, and additional disconnections are scheduled for Jan. 19, Jan. 26 and Feb. 2 based on each billing cycle. City officials said customers must pay their full balance to have service restored (MT Statute 7-13-4305).  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • DPHHS submitted a request to recertify Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs near Anaconda after nearly four years without the federal certification, and it plans to revise its budget for $233 million in rural health funds while adding new staff, with improvements expected in coming months.  KTVQ
  • Colstrip Hospital District received a $120,000 grant from Montana DOC to upgrade its electronic records management — the funding will help link providers with Billings Clinic and Logan Health for quicker access and reduced redundant testing.  KULR8
  • Yellowstone County has seen 1,300 flu cases this season, including 286 last week, as fewer people get vaccinated and the flu shot does not match the virus strains (RiverStone Health Chief Medical Officer Megan Littlefield).  KTVQ
