  • The Montana Food Bank Network received a $50K grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield Montana to strengthen its hunger-fighting programs. The network’s 330 partners, including food banks + schools, will use the funds to help more families access food.  KULR8
  • Kitty Corner Cafe, Billings' second cat cafe run by a nonprofit, offers a relaxed space where visitors can enjoy free roaming cats and browse punch cards for regulars. Co-founder Anna Claypool said the venue serves as a rare community spot for meeting cats and finding forever homes (while building local connections).  KULR8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local startup Nex has seen its motion-based gaming system, Nex Playground, become the third best-selling console this holiday season, outselling Microsoft Xbox with its affordable $250 price and family-friendly safety features — including privacy measures certified by the Family Online Safety Institute. CRIME NEWS

  • A local nonprofit that supports accessible group activities reported its van vandalized Wednesday morning with about $3,000 in damages — insurance will cover $1,000 while repairs, which may take weeks, are underway as community members help with the deductible.  KTVQ

  • Billings Public Schools and TEDx team for the first TEDxYouth event where high school students share stories on the theme 'Uncommon: Unique Ways for a Unique World'—the event is scheduled for April as county students may apply until midnight Sunday.  KTVQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new report from the Natural Resources Conservation Service shows that Montana’s high mountains have above normal snowpack while lower areas lag. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks noted that these conditions may affect summer streamflow & fish habitats as the season unfolds.  KULR8
  • Billings City Council reviewed 10 proposals from its Energy and Conservation Committee to boost conservation by installing more LED streetlights and enhancing green waste removal. These measures aim to improve energy efficiency and save the city money in the long term.  Billings Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials plan to build a new $26.5 million forensic mental health facility with 32 beds on a 114 acre plot just outside Laurel. Community meetings to gather feedback will be held soon as the project aims to ease the long waitlist for services.  KULR8

  • A new dental clinic is planned for West Billings as KE Construction filed a $1.275M permit in mid-October. The project will offer residents another option for local dental care.  Billings Gazette
  • Angry Orange Stain and Odor Remover Enzyme Cleaner is recalled nationwide for potential bacteria risks, while Johnson Health has expanded a treadmill recall covering 47,000 Matrix Retail and Vision models sold at Better Body Fitness — affected owners will receive a new power cord.  KULR8
