  • ZooMontana received a $300,000 grant — the funds will help build a 3,600 sqft on-site veterinary clinic with construction starting this fall to improve animal care and offer educational experiences to local students.  KULR8
  • Billings shelters open their doors today when temperatures drop below zero to help those facing homelessness get warm; Off the Streets (near downtown) and Montana Rescue Mission manage extra capacity as cold conditions raise risks of frostbite and severe injury.  KTVQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rimrock Mall has paid its overdue property taxes for Yellowstone County, clearing concerns about its ownership future + County Treasurer Hank Peters confirmed the payment to keep the mall under its current management.  KULR8
  • Diners in West End have three new restaurants coming soon. Cupbop completed a soft opening today with a grand opening planned on Jan. 29, Cheba Hut will open next month at Shiloh Commons off King Avenue, and Doc Holiday’s Roadhouse debuts next Wednesday at 760 S. 20th St. West.  KTVQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local author Nancy Belinak has released her second children's book, A Friend with Pig Tails, which uses friendly farm animals to show kids that differences are okay—she grew up on a family ranch. Her work was featured on Times Square screens last December and is available at bookstores.  KTVQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Katie Meier, a teacher at the Career Center, was honored after 18 years of guiding students into EMS, dental, med and nursing careers—she received a $500 grant, a $150 gift card and other gifts from the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools, Western Security Bank and City Brew Coffee.  KTVQ
  • Local high school students are preparing for the first TEDxBillingsYouth event this spring at Lincoln Center, with the all-student committee accepting applications through Sunday for talks and performances (Uncommon: Unique Ways for a Unique World), offering a platform for fresh ideas and personal stories.  KULR8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Alyssa Webb opened Santosha Yoga & Wellness on Wicks Lane to provide a new yoga and wellness sanctuary for local neighbors, filling a gap in the Heights. The studio aims to offer community members fresh health options.  Billings Gazette
  • Billings Clinic celebrated its 10-year anniversary Friday as the pediatric unit marked a decade helping children with complex conditions, including cystic fibrosis – Montana’s only center that keeps families from traveling out of state for care for nearly 1,000 patients from eastern Montana and northern Wyoming.  KTVQ
