ECONOMY NEWS

  • Visit Billings, managed by the Billings Chamber of Commerce, has launched the spring Tourism Business Improvement District Grant Program to provide funds for local events that attract visitors and boost tourism. Applications will close on April 15—each proposal requiring a detailed plan, budget, and marketing strategy with funding amounts varying by project scale.  KULR8

  • Today, the Department of Veterans Affairs will honor Vietnam War veterans in a final ceremony at Yellowstone National Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. Tom Lawry will deliver the keynote speech and lapel pins will be presented to each veteran to mark the 50th anniversary of their service.  KULR8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Billings Clinic and Blue Cross Blue Shield announced Tuesday they agreed to extend their current hospital services contract—set to expire April 15—to continue rate negotiations. The companies said they are working in good faith to secure a new agreement before the deadline to keep about 40,000 customers in the network.  KTVQ
  • Dr. John Moore — who noted that nine counties lack a family care physician — and Dr. James Denisar-Green said Montana faces a doctor shortage due to many older doctors retiring and difficulty in attracting new residents. Rocky Vista University has opened a campus in Billings to train local students as efforts by groups like Montana Family Medicine Residency work to improve doctor recruitment and work-life balance.  KTVQ
  • RiverStone Health in Billings is ramping up measles defenses as cases rise in Texas and New Mexico, though Montana has reported no cases since 1990. Billings Public Schools recorded that 15,511 of 16,555 students are up to date on immunizations—reducing local risks if exposure occurs.  Billings Gazette
