Canyon Creek School teacher Daron Asleson received the March Gold Star Award in Billings and plans to spend his $250 cash prize on new books for his classroom — an honor recognizing his dedication to students.
Billings Career Center students built their 50th family home on Wednesday at 3071 Hunters Ridge Loop with Langlas & Associates and the Home Builders Association.
The project provided hands-on training in construction skills.
The Montana Historical Society is accepting nominations for its 37th Montana Statehood Centennial Bell Award to honor an outstanding grade 7–12 teacher in Montana history during the 2025–2026 school year; nominations close April 13 and the winner will be celebrated on Nov.
9 at the State Capitol with a plaque and cash prize (over $3,000) for classroom needs.
Nearly 1,000 water and wastewater professionals gathered this week in Billings for the 46th Montana Rural Water Systems Technical Conference (held at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center), where training and networking focused on water safety.

Representatives from the U.S. Wildland Fire Service updated the Montana Environmental Quality Council yesterday about plans to reduce duplication and speed up wildfire response for the coming fire season in Montana.
They noted fire crews will stay roughly the same (US Forest Service remains under a different department).
