CRIME NEWS

  • The Billings Police report shows a 4.6 percent drop in calls for service while fraud and criminal endangerment investigations rose, but Chief Rich St. John said state budget cuts will soon cut about 20 officer positions — reducing the number of patrol cars on the streets.  KULR8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montana House voted 88—12 on April 9 to move Senate Bill 224 forward, which would create Indigenous Peoples Day as a joint holiday with Columbus Day and rename the February holiday to Presidents Day. The bill will have a final vote today before it heads to Gov. Gianforte if it passes.  KTVQ
  • Crews in downtown Billings have been working on electrical lines for street lights and making sidewalks ADA-compliant for the $6.1 million Two-Way Restoration project — aimed at slowing traffic, easing navigation and boosting business access. An open house is held today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Downtown Billings Association on North 29th Street.  KTVQ
  • Downtown Billings Alliance will host an informational meeting with BNSF Railroad on April 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Big Sky Economic Development; BNSF Real Estate Director (Rebeca Ortiz) will explain policies, procedures and future plans for railroad-owned properties and outline next steps for lease negotiations.  City of Billings

  • Billings native Giada Gonzales closed a six-year chapter at St. Vincent Regional Hospital after being born at 30 weeks and facing severe complications, including heart issues and a popped lung—her family expressed deep gratitude for the dedicated care she received. They joined the 11th annual Call for Kids Mediation event to support the hospital’s pediatric units.  KTVQ
