CRIME NEWS

  • A Shepherd home was hit with nine shots Monday morning when a vehicle parked in the driveway and two people fired into it — damaging walls, appliances and near a bedroom and prompting the sheriff’s office to launch an investigation with no suspect arrested.  KTVQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Billings Studio Theatre is staging 'The Tin Woman' during Donate Life Month to raise awareness of organ donation. Audiences will hear donor and recipient testimonies before each performance (today at 7:30 p.m. and on upcoming weekends).  KTVQ
  • The Paper Mill, housed in the old Carpenter Paper Company building—has opened on Montana Avenue in downtown Billings. It will host large scale events—providing a historic setting for community gatherings.  Billings Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Billings Public School District 2 recently held a meeting with staff, parents, and community members to discuss strategic priorities including AI use in classrooms and better support for teachers—Superintendent Dr. Erwin Garcia said community feedback and the district’s Graduate Profile will guide future changes.  KULR8
  • Senior High School teacher Caden Kiedrowski was honored under the One Class at a Time program for building a supportive environment in his Earth Science class and Tabletop Club—sponsored by Q2, Western Security Bank, City Brew Coffee, and the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools—receiving a $500 grant and a $150 gift card.  KTVQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Students from MSU Billings and Rocky Mountain College competed to remove waste along Hogan’s Creek on Friday. They pulled about 50 tires and plastic bags to protect local wildlife — an effort organized by the Yellowstone River Research Center to promote community stewardship.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Senate advanced a bill to tighten voter residency rules (31-19 vote on April 10) and it will face one final vote before it goes to the governor’s desk. The bill would count temporary workers, trainees, or students as residents only if they plan to stay permanently (a change aimed at ensuring voters have long-term ties to their communities).  KTVQ
  • Billings officials will study a plan to switch to an airport authority so the airport can operate more like a business — said Jeff Roach, director of aviation and transit, noting that the plan will be reviewed in the coming months to see if it can lower costs and improve services.  Billings Gazette
  • Today, the city is nearing completion of the Wicks Lane Stormwater Improvement Project — a two-year, $4.5 million upgrade that replaces outdated systems with a modern treatment structure to filter debris before runoff reaches the Yellowstone River. Engineer Tyler Westrope said the project will set the stage for additional drainage improvements in the area after surface restorations finish in May.  KTVQ
