- ➤ MetraPark’s Stoney Field said that Billings needs an outdoor arena for rodeo and equine events — a request that may lead to new facility proposals from local officials. Billings Gazette
- ➤ Billings will host the Rick Justice Memorial Red and Blue Charity Ball on Saturday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center — the event will raise funds for families of fallen first responders and feature dinner, dancing, a silent auction and a keynote speech by Representative Troy Downing. - ➤ ZooMontana is asking the community to honor former director Jeff Ewelt by supporting a new animal health center that will improve care for the zoo’s animals — the fundraiser aims to raise $1 million by year's end. - ➤ Federal data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor shows that Montana recorded the second highest hiring rate in February and Idaho ranked high among key hiring states. Wyoming ranked among the top six for hiring—Washington had slower hiring rates despite leading the Northwest in total hires. KULR8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A team of five Billings West High School students competed in Washington, D.C. at the National Science Bowl starting Thursday, April 24th after winning the regional contest in early March to vie for a gold medal and a $5,000 award. - ➤ With less than two weeks until Election Day on May 6, Billings voters are reviewing choices for two contested school board trustee seats in Districts 5 and 7—ballots were mailed on April 21—and candidates have shared key ideas for local schools. In District 5, Jourdan Guidice and Amanda Brown disagree on school funding while in District 7, Luke Ashmore challenges incumbent John VonLangen—each race focuses on local education needs—as they aim to strengthen the school system.
