  • The 11th annual Yellowstone Valley Gives campaign is in its final hours and aims to raise $1 million for nearly 150 local nonprofits supporting causes from education & cancer patient support. Donors may contribute online through the end of May.  KTVQ
  • Billings Police Department officers Santiago, Newell and Mitchell rescued a scared kitten that crawled under a car and then turned it over to animal control for safe care.  KULR8
  • Visit Billings joins Montana This Morning this week to preview a busy May of local events, including National Travel and Tourism Week (May 3-9), Craft Beer Week, the Montana Women’s Run, Special Olympics State Summer Games and the Skyline Half-Marathon. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Western Heritage Center in Billings opened the 'Having a beer in Billings' exhibit on March 17, showing the city's brewing history from its first brewery to today's craft scene. The exhibit, running through December, ties into upcoming Craft Beer Week May 11-16.  KTVQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Broadwater Elementary teacher Laura Welch is honored by the Education Foundation, Western Security Bank and City Brew Coffee in Q2 for engaging students and fostering critical thinking; she received a $500 grant and a $150 gift card while supporting community events like Veterans Day activities.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city approved the sale of the 119-year-old Babcock Theater to Arthouse for $1+ agrees to cover a $100,000 roof repair deductible. The sale will be finalized by June 1 and Arthouse expects to fix the roof by fall.  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Montana is updating guidance on eating wild-caught fish after a study found PFAS (forever chemicals) in several species from local waters such as the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers. Officials from DPHHS, DEQ, and FWP will monitor tests and advise safe consumption practices for residents.  KTVQ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Billings officials increased assistance for first-time homebuyers — funded by federal HUD programs including the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnerships. The move aims to make purchasing a home more affordable for local residents.  Billings Gazette
