  • In April, Billings saw many business changes as new openings, relocations and extended hours were announced; Coco Cherie Creamiez is moving to Rimrock Mall and Michelle’s Pantry will extend summer hours starting May 13. Frae Collective had its downtown opening on May 2 and Sassy Biscuit closed after low sales—other businesses transitioned ownership while new ventures and events continue to shape the local scene.  Billings Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Billings police charged 44-year-old Jesse Jon Strack with deliberate homicide after his wife, identified as M.S., died from assault injuries sustained during an April 18 incident on Wyoming Avenue and confirmed dead on April 24—video evidence of a heated argument prompted the charge update.  KULR8
  • Jesse Jon Strack, a 44-year-old man, pleaded not guilty to a deliberate homicide charge after his wife died on April 24 at a Billings hospital when she was taken off life support; his bond was set at $500,000.  KTVQ
  • Seven Romanian nationals were charged for illegally entering Montana from Canada last Friday morning after Border Patrol found them in two vans on Interstate 15 at 2:30 a.m.—two face extra charges for transporting undocumented immigrants and one for illegally re-entering a removed immigrant, with all pleading not guilty.  KULR8

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Friday, May 2, families attended a free art workshop at Yellowstone Art Museum where they traced animal tracks using mixed media. Today, locals can join a free Wildfire Home Hardening Workshop at Lockwood Fire Department from 8:30 a.m. to 12, pick up comics for Free Comic Book Day at The Splash Page from 10 to 10:30 a.m., or learn to fly drones safely at Montana Drone Safety Day at Rocky Mountain College from 10 a.m. to 3.  KTVQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 600 students gathered at the Career Center in Billings as the Billings Public School System and MSUB City College hosted a live extrication simulation showing how first responders work at crash scenes. Fire trucks, ambulances, police, and a life flight helicopter were featured—officials hope the event will boost interest in emergency services careers.  KULR8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montana Legislature cut property taxes and Billings may lose $8.5 million in revenue—city finance director Andy Zoeller said the city charter limits the tax rate and could force tax increases on second homes and short-term rentals, a move that may put around 70 jobs at risk if the council does not act by Monday.  KTVQ
