  • Amanda Minchew, named the 2024 Adult Volunteer of the Year, has spent 23 years supporting the Special Olympics in Billings (she began volunteering at 15 inspired by her sister) and now leads local events where athletes can showcase their skills. Her work has included international trips and community golf contests that bring volunteers and athletes together.  KTVQ

CRIME NEWS

  • A Hardin resident, Glenn Gale Ware, was sentenced to 24 months in prison for making threatening calls to FBI agents in Billings—he pleaded guilty in March 2024 after leaving 29 vulgar voicemails falsely accusing agents of misconduct.  KULR8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Billings South Side has a new mural that honors Hispanic heritage as custom painter Ray Nava III and local students from Raza Unida work on a wall in South Park that shows a red 1971 Caprice lowrider and a sunset with nearby buildings. The artwork will be finished by the end of the month—celebrating local culture and community pride.  KTVQ
  • Brothers Tony and Dallas Contreraz opened a full-scale exhibit—¡Viva La Fiesta!—at the Western Heritage Center that highlights 70 years of Hispanic heritage in Billings through photos, costumes, and family recipes. The display runs through July and leads into the 71st Billings Mexican Fiesta scheduled for July 19 at South Park.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Billings homeowners will save about $205 a year on city property taxes in 2026 if the council follows the state law, but the city may face up to $10 million in spending cuts if it sticks to charter limits. City officials will review options at budget meetings starting May 19 and later sessions, with proposals including raising mills or holding a special election — a decision that may affect services like police and fire.  Billings Gazette
