  • NonStop Local, the only Montana TV station nominated for the Community Outreach award by NATAS North West, worked with United Way and the Gianforte Family Foundation on Giving Tuesday to help sign up hundreds of children for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library using a telethon and ads with a QR code + First Lady Susan Gianforte and Governor Greg Gianforte donated about $10,000 to support the program with plans to expand next year. Longtime KULR8 sports anchor Chris Byers also received a 2025 Silver Circle award for his community work.  KULR8

  • Teen sisters Alexia and Alicia Half died when the SUV they were riding in went off the pavement along Airport Road in Billings—fundraiser is underway to help their family.  Billings Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Kelly Jo Muzzana, a former operations manager at Altana Federal Credit Union in Billings, was sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in prison—followed by 3 years of supervised release—and ordered to pay $65,046.37 in restitution after she embezzled funds in 2023 by making personal purchases with duplicate bank cards, with the credit union reimbursing its customers.  KTVQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Billings Catholic students and clergy were surprised on Thursday when white smoke signaled the election of Pope Leo XIV (the first American-born pope) as the church's new leader, and banners were hung outside St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral to mark the historic event.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana Department of Transportation crews are clearing snow from Beartooth Pass as the highway nears its planned opening for summer. The work began on April 14 and local officials say light snowfall has helped the project stay on schedule for the Friday before Memorial Day weekend.  KTVQ
  • The Heights water board approved up to $106,000 for leak detection equipment and staff after two homes lost water unexpectedly over several weeks. Board tests revealed a hidden leak losing about 1 million gallons a day (its exact source remains unknown) and officials say the new equipment will help find the leak.  KTVQ
