COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dozens attended the annual National Day of Prayer event outside the Yellowstone County Courthouse on Thursday. Pastors, local leaders & community members prayed for families, schools, first responders and elected officials to build unity in Billings.  KULR8
  • On Friday, May 8, a Community Baby Shower in Billings drew long lines as neighbors dropped off diapers, wipes, and essentials to help families—benefiting Family Promise of Yellowstone Valley and United Way and nearly reaching its donation goal.  KTVQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Foundation for Montana History held the first Montana Appraisal Fair at the Yellowstone Art Museum on Friday, with appraisers (known from PBS’s Antique Roadshow) evaluating items like family heirlooms and thrift store finds; proceeds support grants for Montana preservation projects.  KTVQ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • United and Allegiant are reducing flights at Billings airport due to rising fuel costs & shifting policies, so travelers will soon have fewer travel options.  Billings Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tonya Scheafer, a 2nd grade teacher known for creative lessons, was honored by the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools, Western Security Bank and City Brew Coffee with a $500 grant and $150 gift card for her dedication to inspiring students.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Billings community members are learning about police work through the Citizen's Police Academy, an eight week program that started on April 8 and meets Wednesdays for three hours at the police barn (covering investigations, drone operations and special enforcement training) to help residents better understand the department's work.  KULR8
  • BLM rescinded American Prairie's grazing permits for bison on public land in Phillips County after ruling the herd is used for conservation not production. Governor Gianforte praised the decision—saying it upholds Montana law—while American Prairie labeled the move political and warned a court battle may follow.  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • RiverStone Health warned that guests at a Billings hotel face a Legionnaires’ disease risk from contaminated water after several cases of illness were reported over the past year (visitors are urged to follow safety precautions).  Billings Gazette
