Today in downtown Billings, the 44th Montana Women’s Run will bring thousands of women to a 5-mile race starting at 8 a.m. and a 2-mile run at 9 a.m.—continuing a tradition that began in 1982.

Billings saw several events for Mental Health Awareness Month and Mother’s Day this weekend—Friday’s Kitten Shower at This House of Books and Comedy Stampede at Red Door Lounge occurred, and the Billings Outlaws game is holding a suicide prevention awareness night at 6 p.m. today.

In addition, Sunshine Express is donating part of its profits for the suicide prevention walk scheduled for September 15, and DanWalt Botanical Gardens will host a Mother’s Day Art Show on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Billings police arrested two men on charges of child sex abuse, with Seth Ackerman Jackson charged with child rape and sexual assault after a home search on May 7 (he faces two rape counts and one assault) and Brandon Lee Loomis charged with child rape and child prostitution after investigators tied him to the abuse of four underage girls.

Jessica Spencer at Castle Rock Middle School was honored by the One Class at a Time program—sponsored by Q2, Western Security Bank, City Brew Coffee and the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools—for creating a supportive BASE program that helps students through team meals and skill-building, earning her a $500 grant and a $150 gift card.

Seven youth boxers from Billings Elite Boxing will travel to Las Vegas in June to compete in the Junior Olympics after earning medals at both state and national levels.

The athletes train 20-25 hours a week and include 14-year-old Taliyah Rodriguez, who uses boxing as therapy + a way to overcome personal challenges.
