  • On Thursday evening, Billings residents Jessica Garza and Heather Hultgren found Cowboy, a senior horse stuck in the Yellowstone River near Mullowney Lane, and Friday morning the sheriff’s team rescued him by helicopter and reunited him with his owners around 10 a.m. (the horse had been in trouble since Tuesday).  KTVQ
  • Billings car lovers will gather at Rimrock Mall parking lot at 12:30 p.m. Sunday to show that a safe, family-friendly car meet can succeed after last week's violent illegal event — organizer Shawn Walker said the event is expected to attract over 150 enthusiasts.  KULR8

CRIME NEWS

  • A Billings police officer was seriously injured when responding to a trespassing call at a downtown parking garage Wednesday and suspect John Smells faces assault charges — in nearby Sweet Grass County, detectives are investigating three Montana Guard airmen who are accused of stealing elk antlers from a private ranch. At Yellowstone National Park, staff killed an 11-year-old bear that repeatedly overturned dumpsters in search of human food.  KTVQ

  • Billings Public Schools special education teacher Mrs. Makinen was honored by the One Class at a Time program for her dedication to her students. She received a $500 grant from the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools (sponsored by Western Security Bank) and a $150 gift card from City Brew Coffee.  KTVQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Billings Public Works says nearly 47% of waste at the Billings Regional Landfill is compostable, including food scraps, cardboard and yard waste—local companies such as Swift Buckets and Agri Organics are turning organic waste into useful compost while the city tests its own method to extend the landfill’s life.  Billings Gazette

  • A district court judge in Missoula stopped the state from using a law that would force public places to have bathrooms based on a person’s sex at birth. The judge granted a preliminary injunction Friday—this order stays until a final ruling is made.  KTVQ
  • Gov. Gianforte and the Montana Department of Commerce unveiled the state's new tourism brand at the World Famous Bucking Horse Sale in Miles City on Friday — the first major refresh in 16 years introduces a redesigned logo, vibrant color palette, and new website to boost tourism and business. Officials said the campaign will tour the state this summer to attract more visitors and investment.  KTVQ
