EDUCATION NEWS

  • Billings Career Center’s Go Baby Go program built a custom ride-on car to help Nathan, a boy with Dup15q, gain independence and play with his brothers this summer. Four high school students modified the car with special buttons, support straps, and foam padding at the center.  KULR8
  • NonStop Local and Black Hills Federal Credit Union teamed up on Monday morning to deliver new books to Miles Avenue Elementary School in Billings. The program provides a $2,000 monthly book fund to local schools + supports lifelong reading.  KULR8
  • On Monday, the Billings Public Schools Board approved a contract with the Billings Education Association that gives teachers a 1.5% yearly raise for the next two years, a move intended to support the district’s educators amid a tight budget.  Billings Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana state officials received USDA approval to restrict SNAP funds from buying soda and high-sugar processed foods while exempting items like milk and pure fruit juice; the changes will take effect later this year.  KTVQ
  • Yellowstone County mobile home owners are facing increased property taxes after a new law required registration of their homes as primary residences. Bills were mailed this month and 56% of the homes are affected; residents can apply for a refund starting January if they qualify for the Homestead Tax break.  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Starting July 1, most adults on Medicaid expansion must prove they work or volunteer 80 hours weekly to keep their benefits, a change expected to affect thousands as the state opens public comment through Friday + local groups are monitoring its impact.  KTVQ
  • A new nurse orientation program at St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Billings helps new nurses build confidence in patient care. Developed by three experienced nurses, the program breaks training into manageable steps and aims to improve nurse readiness on the floor.  KTVQ
