COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Monday's Gazette was the last paper printed in the Billings building before printing moved to Bozeman. The old Goss press — which printed 60,000 papers every hour since 1968 — was set to be dismantled after the building was sold.  Billings Gazette
  • On Sunday, Jessica Marin learned her mare, Zap, was missing near Pryor Road just south of Billings. She has reported the disappearance and contacted local authorities — including sheriffs and the Bureau of Indian Affairs — to help bring her horse home.  KTVQ

CRIME NEWS

  • Billings police arrested Reese Gray, 27, from Hardin on May 31 after a structure fire on the 2700 block of 4th Ave S claimed the life of a cat—he now faces charges of arson, criminal endangerment, and aggravated animal cruelty.  KULR8
  • Billings police are seeking Donna Prescott, 76, who was taken from her care facility on the 3100 block of Ave. C at about 4 p.m. June 1 along with her red 2004 Chrysler Town — she was last seen Monday at 9 a.m. in Rapid City with a non-custodial relative, and officials believe she may be with Kit Donley and Tama LaRay Donley.  KTVQ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Big Sky Economic Development said more than $1.5 billion is being invested in construction projects around Billings, including a $37 million College of Veterinary Medicine at Rocky Vista University that broke ground last week and will be completed by spring next year (with up to 200 local workers at a time).  KTVQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State, federal, and local leaders met in Helena on June 2 and warned that Montana could face a higher fire risk this season due to drought, hot weather, and a fast-melting snowpack. Fire officials have upgraded helicopter safety features + increased staffing and funding to help protect communities as wildfires are expected to grow in July and spread later.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Billings City Council reviewed police budgets at a Monday night work session—police funds dropped by about 2.27% due to lower tax revenue from recent state property tax changes, and the council will delay filling five vacant positions to avoid layoffs while maintaining public safety. The council will also look at other department budgets at a special session on Tuesday.  KTVQ
