- ➤ Laurel is having its final Fourth of July fireworks show at Thomson Park today because new AstroTurf fields and the demolition of Graff Elementary School mean the park cannot host the event in the future. The Laurel Volunteer Fire Department runs the show (drawing many visitors) and local residents are both saddened and hopeful (with longtime resident Big Mo Henman noting its importance). KTVQ
- ➤ Billings resident Bill George, a World War II Navy veteran who will turn 101 in July, remembers working as a diesel mechanic and says his positive outlook helped him stay active. - ➤ Yellowstone County District Court charged Dean Webb Frost with deliberate homicide on July 2—he is accused of killing 80-year-old Donald Finch in Huntley last November after Finch blocked Frost and his granddaughter from accessing his bank account. Billings Gazette
- ➤ According to Forbes, Montana ranks as the worst state for drunk driving, with $3.8 billion spent on alcohol last year and fewer rideshare trips leading to more drinking and driving—Dr. Sarah Church of Wholeview Wellness warned residents to be careful during today's celebrations. KULR8
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ DEQ has proposed an air quality permit that would allow Phillips 66 to raise its oil gas processing by about 8%—this increase would also raise greenhouse gases by the same amount. Officials say the proposal will be examined closely before any permit is issued. Billings Gazette
