COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Billings hosts two events; the Classic Car Auction at MetraPark Expo Center begins at 11 a.m. with check-in conducted Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Strawberry Festival opens downtown at 9 a.m. On Sunday, July 13, families will attend the Kid’s Dash n’ Pedal at Shiloh Conservation Area starting at 10 a.m.—helmets are required and race packets are available from 9:30 a.m.  KTVQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Billings fire crews responded quickly to a fire at 811 N. 23rd St.—directly across from Fire Station #1—that was reported at about 4:30 a.m. Friday, with residents evacuating safely and no injuries reported while investigators check the likely spark from improperly disposed smoking material.  KTVQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • At the July 4 Northern Cheyenne Chief’s Powwow, about 60 dancers performed the third annual Red Hand Special dance to honor lost relatives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People — local nonprofit Pretty Eagle Woman Resources hosted the event as family members held signs with names and photos of their loved ones.  Billings Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • NorthWestern Energy has temporarily lowered rates for customers as it enters a regulatory review by the Montana Public Service Commission to assess if energy costs reflect delivery expenses; customers may receive refunds with interest if final approved rates are lower than the temporary ones.  KULR8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Billings students in grades 7 through 12 joined Code Girls United’s first cybersecurity camp at MSU Billings this week to learn coding, cybersecurity and ethical hacking to help protect their community. The camp, called Cybercat Hacking Academy, featured hands-on exercises such as programming cat-themed devices and an escape room challenge + aims to inspire more local students to pursue STEM careers.  KTVQ

  • Downtown Billings is undergoing a two-way street restoration project today as chip sealing begins and on-street parking closes for the week; the City offers free hourly parking at Park 1 garage on 3rd Avenue North & available on Levels 1, 2, 4 & 5.  KULR8
