COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Yellowstone County is running a school supply campaign to help Billings families pay for back-to-school items; donation sites are available at its headquarters on Overland and Mattress King stores through Aug. 13. The effort follows last year’s drive that supported over 700 families—this year supplies like notebooks, markers and hygiene items are needed with a community drop-off day on Aug. 13 and supply distribution set for Aug. 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  KTVQ

  • A Billings homeowner discovered a fire and knocked on a fire station door as firefighters opened bay doors to a wall of flames—Deputy Fire Marshall Becky Biggins said.  Billings Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Former Billings boxer Anthony Ray Sullivan, 40, pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges of deliberate homicide and evidence tampering after he was accused of beating his girlfriend to death on July 4 in the Copper Ridge subdivision — Judge Carter set a $500,000 bond with GPS monitoring and banned him from contacting her family.  KTVQ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gasbuddy.com reported that on July 14 Montana’s average gas price was $3.27 per gallon, a 1¢ increase from last week+ it is 6.3¢ higher than last month but 26.3¢ lower than last year.  KTVQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Ron Sexton, who led MSU Billings for more than 30 years, died this past weekend at age 87 in Billings. He helped grow local colleges and build new programs—his private family service will be held soon.  Billings Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday night, Billings City Council approved over $1.3 million in TIF funds for two downtown projects aimed at boosting housing and pedestrian safety. The larger project will renovate the long-vacant Masonic Temple (with a planned $7.9 million investment for retail, office, and 10 residential units) while the smaller project will add four new flashing crossing beacons on Montana Avenue (with $20,000 allocated) to improve pedestrian safety.  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local healthcare partners in Yellowstone County are urging residents to complete an anonymous online survey to pinpoint key health concerns and service gaps. The results will help shape future county health programs & resource planning.  KULR8

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Clint and Suri Lunde listed the iconic DanWalt Gardens for sale at $2.1M; the property includes event space, three acres (three homes and botanical gardens) and offers income from rentals and events. Billings-based real estate agent Andrew Miller said the Lundes, who have owned the site since 2017, are retiring and seek a buyer to continue the legacy started by Dan and Walt.  KTVQ
