On July 14, Judge Dana Christensen ruled in favor of conservation groups by invalidating a part of the Bitterroot National Forest's road-building amendment that lacked assessments of impacts on grizzly bears and bull trout — he sent it back to the Forest Service to ensure compliance with environmental laws.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced Tuesday near the Gallatin Wildlife Management area that states meeting recovery benchmarks will set their own grizzly bear management plans with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Montana Gov. Gianforte, Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon and Idaho Gov. Brad Little were present.
