  • Hundreds of dead fish washed ashore at Laurel's South Pond at Lions Family Park as Fish, Wildlife and Parks said the natural event is due to temperature changes. More than $100,000 in stolen property, including a truck and camper trailer, were recovered in Idaho after a Billings area theft — while the Huntley Project Museum seeks public help to repair its 18 buildings and protect 5,000 artifacts after severe weather damage.  KTVQ
  • Billings neighbors expressed relief that the 220-unit housing project on the former Elks property was halted (neighbors had long worried about extra traffic and noise) after more than two years of stalled planning due to cost concerns.  KTVQ

  • Native American-owned N8V Grown opened its first Billings-area storefront on July 18 at 7342 Eggebrecht Lane—located outside city limits where recreational cannabis shops are not allowed in town—to offer its potent, Montana-grown cannabis. The company, which employs mainly Native Americans and recently rebuilt its crop after a wipeout from a pathogen, plans to open three more locations in Montana within the next month.  Billings Gazette

  • Billings woman Rancurret was sentenced to over 20 years in court for threatening to run over protestors—she drank two bottles of liquor after buying alcohol, according to court documents.  Billings Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana public media outlets are bracing for possible federal funding cuts due to a rescission package bill that may remove $2.8 million over the next two years—Yellowstone Public Radio said it will seek donor support as CPB grants account for about 8% of its budget.  KULR8

HEALTH NEWS

  • A child who attended Vacation Bible school in Billings from July 14 to 16 while contagious is now suspected of having measles, and Yellowstone County Public Health is contacting camp staff, volunteers, and families while the child remains in quarantine. MMR vaccines will be available today at RiverStone Health Clinic (123 South 27th Street) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for anyone 12 months and older.  KTVQ
  • RiverStone Health launched its Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors Team to support those grieving a suicide loss in collaboration with the Yellowstone County Coroner’s Office — offering in-person visits, scheduled calls and mailed messages with immediate family members eligible for up to three free counseling sessions. The program also invites volunteers and provides the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for urgent support.  KULR8
