  • Twenty unionized warehouse and truck drivers at Boise Cascade in Billings went on strike Tuesday evening— they are protesting for higher wages and better healthcare benefits and said they will keep striking until a new contract is agreed upon.  KTVQ

CRIME NEWS

  • China Rose Dawn Davis, convicted in connection to a 2019 drug-related homicide in Yellowstone County, died on July 21 following a medical call at Montana Women’s Prison — she was later pronounced dead at Intermountain Health in Billings. Officials have not released further details as the investigation continues.  KTVQ
  • Montana Fair organizers warned Billings vendors about a scam using fake email addresses to pose as fair representatives inviting commercial or food vendor applications — they urge people to be cautious and report any suspicious messages.  KULR8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • EPA is seeking public comment on a $34 million plan to reduce toxic vapors in Billings—affecting 2,700 homes, 1,500 businesses, and the most impacted Remedy Area A. The plan may soon require installation of vapor mitigation systems and new local rules, with a meeting at the Billings Public Library on Aug 27 at 5:30 p.m. and comments accepted through Sept 26—aiming to cut decades-old pollution from dry cleaners.  Billings Gazette

  • Downtown Billings began converting one-way streets to two-way routes on July 30 as part of a long-planned project to boost the area's activity. Yellowstone County Commissioners appointed Chris White to replace John Ostlund after his fatal plane crash last month, and residents surveyed damage from Monday night's severe hailstorm that dented cars and harmed property.  KTVQ

  • The Montana Department of Health and Human Services announced this week that four mosquito pools in Lewis and Clark and Cascade counties tested positive for West Nile virus and three horses were infected.
