Good morning, Billings. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 2nd of August.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Billings roofing experts advised homeowners on Friday to watch for granule loss and signs of hail damage and to use trusted word-of-mouth recommendations when choosing a contractor. They warned that extensive damage may mean a roof needs a full replacement (and urged caution with contractors calling from out-of-area numbers).  KTVQ
  • Teamsters Local 190 union workers have struck Boise Cascade for three days — demanding higher wages and lower healthcare premiums after their contract expired on March 31.  KULR8
  • Billings is changing its downtown roads from one-way to two-way to help visitors find local shops and ease the flow of traffic. Business owners support the update even though construction has caused challenges, and work is expected to finish by mid-August—possibly extending to mid-September.  KULR8

CRIME NEWS

  • A Billings man, Dustin James Massey, 40, pleaded guilty in April to possession with intent to distribute drugs and was sentenced today to 20 years in prison plus 5 years of supervised release after he shot at officers during a probation search at his home—agents seized methamphetamine, fentanyl pills, cocaine, and three firearms during the investigation.  KULR8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Billings Police Department has been running its Police Vehicle Operations Course at MetraPark since Sunday and will finish training today. Sgt. Jeff Stovall said the exercise focuses on safe vehicle pursuit and emergency response driving — steps designed to protect both officers and the public.  KTVQ
