Good morning, Billings. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 6th of August.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Billings Tumbleweed, a nonprofit helping at-risk youth since the 1970s, is struggling to keep its food pantry stocked—community leaders say shortages include protein-rich foods and larger sizes of underwear and socks. Community members can donate during resource center hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday—donations are needed urgently to meet high demand.  KTVQ
  • Montana This Morning welcomes new anchor Hailey Monaco today as she steps into the role with a strong family connection since her father (Rob Monaco) has directed the show for nearly 30 years. Hailey began her career at KTVQ and earned her degree at the University of Montana, and she is ready to continue the family legacy on air.  KTVQ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Billings will see an economic boost from sporting events as the Legion Regional Baseball tournament begins at Dehler Park this week and Rodeo Billings kicks off at MontanaFair on Aug. 14 — drawing visitors to local hotels, diners and shops.  KTVQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in the Huntley Project area have been told not to drink tap water because nitrate levels can cause health problems like blue baby syndrome—especially for infants. Bottled water is available on Fridays and a public hearing is set for August 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Worden’s VFW post as county officials work on connecting new wells, replacing lines, and disconnecting the infiltration gallery to find a permanent fix.  KULR8
  • Today, the Montana DEQ released its final environmental assessment for the Yellowstone County Generation Station in Laurel and said the plant meets rules for lighting and greenhouse gases—this came after a court ordered a closer look. Some environmental groups still worry the check did not cover all the plant’s effects—fueling fears of long-term climate harm.  KTVQ
