ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 73-year-old Billings man reported missing Saturday evening in the Beartooth Mountains was rescued after being found Monday at 11 p.m. and airlifted Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m.—he is now receiving precautionary medical care.  KTVQ
  • Yellowstone County officials confirmed that the body found at Duck Creek was identified as Billings native Jason Joseph Sims, 49, who died from an accidental drowning—emergency crews treated the area as a crime scene while searching the river.  KULR8

CRIME NEWS

  • A 22-year-old man charged with felony criminal endangerment, misdemeanor driving under the influence and misdemeanor obstructing a peace officer pleaded not guilty Tuesday after he hit a Billings police car early Saturday, with bail set at 25000 dollars and a GPS monitor—he is held on a federal immigration detainer.  KTVQ
  • Billings police responded to a shooting on Alderson Avenue—and detained a 20-year-old man who was later taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.  Billings Gazette
  • A suspect was arrested Monday by the Sidney Police Department after a domestic disturbance turned into an 18-hour armed hostage situation—SWAT teams from Billings and Yellowstone County worked together to resolve the crisis.  Billings Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two years ago, Emily Pennington graduated Billings West High after the district changed its aging-out policy to let her finish school despite her challenges. Her family felt grateful after a lawsuit settlement upheld the right for students with disabilities to study until 22, and Billings schools now expect 13 special education students to join the new program this school year.  KTVQ

  • The EPA is holding a meeting today at Billings Library at 5:30 p.m. to explain its plan to install vapor-mitigation devices in homes near a Superfund site contaminated by dry-cleaning chemicals—residents are urged to attend and ask questions about the cleanup process.  KTVQ
  • Billings approved new oversight for TIF districts that use taxpayer funds—responding to a state law that requires local governments to form advisory committees for neighborhood and economic development districts.  Billings Gazette
