COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Billings will host three events this weekend—today, the Burn the Point Classic Car Show begins at 6pm on 3rd Ave. N with over 500 vintage rides parading past Q2 Studios while Saturday, Aug. 30 will see Henry’s Garage display more than 300 classic cars with over 100 trophies on offer. The Flower Festival will run Aug. 30–31 at Sun and Celosia with live music and games, and the 4th Annual Shop with a Cop will start Sunday at 8:40 a.m. as 40 local kids receive school supplies, free haircuts, dental screenings and lunch.  KTVQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three students were injured when a First Student bus had a tire blowout near Shiloh Road and Neibauer Road on August 28 at 3:43 p.m.—only minor injuries were reported and one student was taken to the hospital as a precaution, Billings Public Schools said.  KULR8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rimrock Mall in Billings faces a tough future—its owner Kohan Retail Investment Group owes Yellowstone County nearly $600,000 in taxes and penalties, and County Treasurer Hank Peters said the group must pay by today or risk the debt being bought by a third party, which could lead to auctioning the mall in three years.  KULR8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The pretty Woodbine Falls Trail is open now after a new metal bridge was built to replace the one lost in the 2022 flood—locals have safe access to the falls near Nye. Hikers say the trail offers a peaceful escape and shows how nature bounces back.  KTVQ
  • On Wednesday, the EPA presented a $33 million plan to reduce toxin risks at the Billings Superfund site—installing vapor mitigation systems in homes, schools and businesses over 35 years while accepting public comments until Sept. 26.  Billings Gazette
  • The Montana Department of Environmental Quality said that wildfire smoke from local, neighboring, and Canadian fires is causing moderate air quality in Frenchtown, Flathead Valley, Billings, and Great Falls (people with health issues should limit outdoor activities). EPA changes to the AQI scale mean more days may be rated moderate (caution is urged for those at risk).  KULR8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly two weeks ago, Gov. Gianforte paused plans for a mental health hospital in eastern Montana. State Senator Mike Yakawich said he supports the project and is pushing for clear plans + more details to avoid delaying funding into the next legislative session.  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hardin resident Jody Reece is using hearing aids at Audiology HQ in Billings to lower her risk of dementia—she chose this path after watching her mother’s rapid decline and learning that hearing loss may be linked to 32% of dementia cases. Mark LaFave, the clinic’s hearing aid dispenser, advises that using aids can help keep the brain active and may slow down hearing loss.  KTVQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis will headline a fundraising event for Daylis Stadium renovations on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at Alberta Bair Theater. He will deliver a keynote address on quality athletic facilities and community support—part of a project whose budget has increased to $14.9 million.  KTVQ
  • Charter Communications has launched The Spot—MTN for Spectrum customers in Montana so viewers can access extra programming from Montana Television Network and Scripps Sports. The service will air 13 Big Sky Conference football games and 6 non-conference games starting September 6 and will add more college and hockey games later.  KTVQ
