COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Union members and their families gathered in Rose Park in Billings on Monday to celebrate worker protections at the annual Labor Day picnic — a long-standing tradition that recalls past sacrifices and ongoing struggles for better wages. Jim Soumas of Teamsters Local 190 said the event reaffirmed the need for continued support of workers’ rights.  KTVQ
  • Lem Robinson is building an elaborate memorial to his daughter Savannah along Highway 3 west of the Billings airport—using river rock, a cross, and a bench spot. Savannah’s friends will gather at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 6 to honor her after she died in a motorcycle crash on May 26.  Billings Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, opposing candidates for Billings mayor—Mike Boyett and Jennifer Owen—served food side by side at the annual Greater Yellowstone Central Labor Council picnic at Rose Park, and Billings Fire Department engineer Lori Johnson cooked hot dogs.  Billings Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Billings Marine veteran Matt Wolcott participated in the National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic in San Diego and tried surfing to help heal from PTSD and physical injuries—he was the first from Billings to join the surfing sessions with nearly 150 other veterans. The five-day clinic used adaptive sports to support recovery both physically and mentally.  KTVQ

  • The New Orleans Saints are signing Butte native Tommy Mellott from Montana State to their practice squad—he was waived by the Raiders—and he will try a transition from quarterback to wide receiver.  KTVQ
