- ➤ In May, a video of two toddlers fighting at a Billings Heights daycare went viral and the owner, Linda Thomas, closed Bibs to Books after staff encouraged the fight and later fired those involved—sixteen months later, she is selling the property as a daycare and says the incident should—never—have happened due to her health struggles. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Billings Career Center is marking 50 years by launching an HVAC program with a $10,000 gift from Valley Credit Union—Principal Matt Clouser said the course will teach students trade skills for high-paying jobs as older workers retire. KULR8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sweet Grass County joined the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority, making it the 19th county to support plans to bring passenger rail back to southern Montana—this news came as the Authority held its annual conference in Livingston this week. KTVQ
- ➤ The renovation of the old Billings Hardware building by High Plains Architects has been delayed by three years due to funding and supply chain issues, raising concern among City Council members. The council will revisit the project on November 10—seeking clarity over the development agreement. KULR8
- ➤ Gov. Greg Gianforte directed state agencies to resume planning for a new $26.5 million state mental-health hospital in eastern Montana, urging public participation to decide the facility type and location. The project, approved by the Montana Legislature, follows a pause in planning after local officials raised concerns — officials expect more updates soon. KTVQ
- ➤ Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is asking local hunters to report sightings of the greater short-horned lizard—a spiny reptile—to help biologists learn more about its population and distribution. Hunters should send in a photo with an object for scale along with details on location, date, and number of lizards seen via Facebook, the iNaturalist app, or by speaking to a local biologist. KULR8
- ➤ The Montana Department of Labor & Industry celebrated workplace safety at the Governor’s Conference on Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Safety in Helena—Bozeman companies, Yellowstone County and individual awardees were recognized for strong safety practices. - ➤ Billings is set to decide the fate of Colonial Apartments as the District Court will rule within 30 days on whether the building may be condemned by the city and Skauge’s trust after the owner's death. The city also faces future leadership changes with an upcoming November election and the Billings-Logan International Airport seeks public input for its 20-year expansion plan. KTVQ
