- ➤ The Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter remains closed as staff work on cleanup after an incinerator malfunction. It was tested on Thursday for contamination and results are expected today or tomorrow—if tests show the building is unsafe, decontamination could take up to four weeks as foster families care for the animals. - ➤ On Sunday, hundreds gathered in Billings to remember conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last week at Utah Valley University—organizer Kevin Moser and political science professor Paul Pope urged the community to move away from violence and extreme rhetoric toward unity. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Early Saturday morning a high-speed crash near a North Side apartment complex totaled two vehicles and damaged others—residents urged drivers to slow down after one driver fled the scene, leaving many worried for safety. KTVQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Billings voters will elect a new mayor and five city council members in the Nov. 4 election with ballots mailed on Oct. 15, and candidates are boosting their funds ahead of the final push. Mike Nelson, who has raised $41,887 up to mid-August, leads the race with a surplus of $28,404 in his campaign coffers & other candidates trail behind. Billings Gazette
