  • Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter is still looking for homes for stray animals after an incinerator malfunction during an FBI meth burn last Wednesday—14 staff were sent to the hospital. The shelter remains closed as testing and restoration progress, and local veterinarians worry about having enough room for the stray animals.  KTVQ
  • The Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter is still searching for homes for stray animals after an incinerator malfunction released smoke when the FBI burned seized meth last week, with city officials noting that safety protocols were followed + in Lame Deer the Northern Cheyenne tribal government is reorganizing after eight council members and two executives were removed amid disputes over an audit of federal funds. The MINT Film Festival returns to Billings this week as Montana-born producer Preston Scott Lee will open the event with his film "Omaha."  KTVQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wingstop, a chain restaurant serving chicken wings, will open its first Billings location on Nov. 11 at 24th Street West and Grand Avenue—next to an exotic pets store—marking the start of its expansion into Montana with additional outlets planned for Bozeman in February and Missoula in May.  KTVQ
  • Local native clothing designer Bethany Yellowtail partnered with Carhartt and unveiled her first Active Jac featuring a mountain motif on Monday—marking a new milestone in her design work.  Billings Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Montana-born film producer Preston Scott Lee returns to his hometown to premiere his independent film Omaha as the opening night film at the Montana International Film Festival on September 18th at 5:30 p.m. at Art House Cinema and Pub—his film has traveled to Sundance and other festivals and marks a personal milestone reconnecting him with his Montana roots.  KTVQ
  • Montana designer Bethany Yellowtail has partnered with Carhartt to create a limited-edition fall clothing line that celebrates Native American heritage and her Wyola community. The collection, which features a women's Montana Active Jac jacket inspired by her childhood, will release in October—Carhartt also donated $50,000 to the Wyola Development Fund.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tribal offices closed Monday after the Sacred Traditional Chiefs Society removed eight council members and two executive branch officers + President Gene Small said the chiefs stepped in when the council tried to replace him over an audit request for roughly $94 million in federal funds.  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Billings mother Raylee Reinhart, who after alcohol abuse treatment in 2023 took eight to 10 Feel Free kratom shots daily, suffered hair loss and growing dependency—she sought help and now warns others about these unregulated products. Health officials plan to crack down on kratom sales in local stores as the FDA warns that the substance mimics opioid effects.  KTVQ
  • Yellowstone County has confirmed eight West Nile virus cases with four hospitalizations, making it the state leader so far. Health officials say more cases may emerge as mosquito pools continue to test positive—residents are urged to protect themselves by avoiding mosquito bites and eliminating standing water.  Billings Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • A new pickleball facility called The Flying Pickle is moving into the vacant former Costco at King Avenue West and South 24th Street West in Billings—founded by two pickleball pros and set to have more than a dozen courts, a lounge area, and a fully stocked pro shop. The company has not announced when the facility will open.  KTVQ
  • The Montana Lady Fierce women's flag football team in Billings works to empower women and girls by playing contact flag football and collecting donations for breast cancer awareness and domestic violence support. Started in 2021, they play two to four games each year and their next game is set for Oct. 4 at Connors Stadium in Miles City.  KULR8
