- ➤ Montana Bar Fairies have begun leaving thank-you cards and $5 coffee gift cards to drivers who choose safe rides from bars in Billings. Volunteer Kelsey Thelen runs the program—she is seeking more volunteers to help the effort—so that the initiative can reduce drunk driving incidents. Billings Gazette

- ➤ The Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools teamed with Western Security Bank and City Brew Coffee for the One Class at a Time program to honor teacher Vincent Sanchez at Medicine Crow Middle School, who works hard to keep his History and Geography classroom safe and supportive—he is receiving a $500 grant and a $150 gift card. - ➤ The city of Billings shut its animal-control incinerator after an emissions leak sickened Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter employees and forced animal evacuations last Friday, while Red Lodge police investigated an alleged attack on a woman near 13th Street east and Platt Avenue South on Monday night and Lame Deer schools closed for a second time this week after violent threats were found in a high school bathroom. - ➤ Rep. Zinke supports a clean continuing resolution that will extend current funding until mid-November — a move aimed at preventing a government shutdown as the fiscal year ends Sept. 30. The House votes today with Senate support needed to reach 60 votes and avoid a filibuster. KTVQ
- ➤ Billings city officials outlined a timeline for water shutoff for property owners with unpaid bills, saying that late fees will start in December and service will stop in January if no payment plan is arranged. Community leader Gary Zacc noted that many residents dispute high water bills possibly from a new billing software system—residents are collecting evidence to support their claims. KTVQ
- ➤ Billings City is planning to restore the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter building after an incinerator used last Friday to burn meth caused smoke that sickened 14 workers and forced animal evacuations — City Administrator Chris Kukulski said the incinerator will remain out of service until the investigation is completed.
