Montana officials warn that harmful algae blooms have been found in waterways and a Billings hospital treated a climber whose helmet and rescue team saved him—after a boulder struck him near Red Lodge on Sept. 21. - ➤ A new neighborhood butcher shop will open downtown Billings this holiday season—its owner says the shop will focus on personalized service and community ties. Billings Gazette
- ➤ Paul Green resigned as executive director of Big Sky Economic Development effective October 17 after a mutual agreement—he will pursue new opportunities while senior directors continue to lead the organization. The board also postponed its Annual Meeting set for October 2. KTVQ

- ➤ First Interstate Bank froze the Northern Cheyenne Tribe's accounts — a move sparked by a month-long power struggle where tribal chiefs removed several elected officials amid conflicting claims over signing authority. The elected council disputes the chiefs' removals and maintains that the leadership changes are not valid. KTVQ
- ➤ Billings is discussing an agreement with the Montana Department of Justice to use a highway patrol incinerator to burn police evidence and drugs. The plan follows a Sept. 10 incident when black smoke from the city incinerator sickened 14 employees and forced an animal shelter to relocate — discussions aim to form a memorandum of understanding for safe disposal.
