Good morning, Billings.
Western Empire Emporium at 3141 King Ave W is collecting winter coats, gloves, hats, blankets, boots, hygiene supplies and backpacks until October 17 for Tumbleweed— a nonprofit that cares for homeless and vulnerable youth in Billings.
General manager Tanya Hill started the drive on September 7 to help keep the youth warm before colder weather arrives.
On Saturday, the Montana Renaissance Festival held its All Hallows Medieval Fantasy Faire at North Park to raise funds for improved pickleball and basketball courts, with proceeds going to the Billings Industrial Revitalization District — nearly 3,000 guests checked in and 7,000 to 8,000 are expected this weekend. The event continues today from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. amid rain that did not stop community joy — organizers say the fundraiser will help revitalize the park.
A study by Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks and the University of Montana BBER showed that fishing supported about 16,000 jobs and added $919 million to Montana’s GDP in 2024, with licensed anglers contributing over $1 billion to the economy.
Officials said the findings highlight how spending on food, lodging — and other outdoor activities — helps drive economic growth from local waters.
