  • Some Montana ranchers are using smartphone apps to control virtual fences for their cattle—letting them draw boundaries and send audio cues from collars. The system offered by Halter as a subscription saves time and fertilizer costs and allows more efficient grazing.  KTVQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mana Lesman, an 83-year-old artist in Billings who teaches art classes, paints large murals that share meaningful messages—she completed an 8-by-32-foot mural of a blacksmith shop in 86 days this summer—and she leads a senior dance group with several shows planned.  KTVQ
  • Alberta Bair Theater is hosting student matinee shows today at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.—school buses and young theater fans from Billings, eastern Montana and northern Wyoming are expected to increase downtown traffic, so drivers should use extra caution when crossing busy streets.  KULR8

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Montana dropped 4.9¢ in the week ending Monday, Oct. 13 to an average of $3.07 per gallon—14.2¢ lower than a month ago and 11.3¢ lower than last year. The national average also fell by 6.4¢ to $3.02 per gallon.  KTVQ
