Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 16th of October.
Good morning, Billings.
🏘️ Community
Bright green safety signs have been placed outside Billings schools to honor Chase Lantz and remind drivers to slow down near children — a project led by Sheri Pope that is already making a difference, with additional signs expected soon.
🎭 Culture
La Cocina Filipina, Billings’ first Filipino restaurant, opened at 310 N.
29th St. in late September, offering homemade lumpia, pancit, and pork adobo to share Filipino culture with the community. Co-owner Lani Vicente launched the restaurant through supportive local partnerships + a timely opportunity.
🎓 Education
First-grade teacher Mrs. Guelff from Meadowlark Elementary was honored today in the 'One Class at a Time' program with a $500 grant & $150 gift card for creating a fun, safe space that inspires reading, sponsored by Billings Public Schools, Western Security Bank, and City Brew Coffee.
🏛️ Government
Billings residents must now ensure trash cans have lids that close completely; bins not meeting this rule will be left behind and tagged (residents can pay a fee or add an extra can to manage extra trash).
