COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Partners for Parks Foundation will host a Parks Champion Awards Luncheon on October 29th — honoring Landon’s Legacy and Bill & Anne Cole for their park support. Proceeds will fund a website upgrade and park grants amid an $800,000 shortfall, and no City Council decisions will be made if a quorum is met — keeping the event strictly focused on the awards.  City of Billings
  • Billings Urban Indian Health and Wellness Center will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Eagle Seeker Clinic with a Community Feed by Mama Joan’s on November 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 1125 Broadwater Avenue (no City Council decisions will be made if a quorum is present).  City of Billings
  • Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter completed 181 adoptions at Lionheart Cannabis after deciding not to return to its old building on Monad Road— it will keep operating there until it finds a new home.  Billings Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thirteen members of the Billings Caledonian Pipes and Drums reached their lifelong dream by traveling to Scotland, where they performed at Gordon Castle and attended a two-day workshop at the National Piping Center. They returned on October 15 and now practice every Wednesday at West High School—continuing a tradition that spans over 60 years.  KTVQ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tomorrow, Montana leaders in business, energy and politics will meet in Billings from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. to discuss rising electricity costs and ways to keep the state attractive for investment. An invite-only event called Behind the Build will be held at Weave Industries on November 5th — offering local member investors a guided tour of business operations.  City of Billings

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Billings teacher Mandy Bacon from Broadwater Elementary was honored with NonStop Local's Gold Star Award today for her dedication to teaching. She expressed her passion for educating her fourth grade students during the ceremony.  KULR8
  • Billings Public Schools reassigned a teacher after a comment about Charlie Kirk's death drew online ire from conservatives+ union members have pushed back over the decision. The district said the reassignment moves the teacher to a different role amid the controversy.  Billings Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Due to the federal shutdown, the USDA has halted SNAP benefits for November—leaving vulnerable families in Billings uncertain about how they will secure food, and local nonprofits plan a food drive to support those at risk.  KTVQ
  • State Senators John Esp and Tom McGilvray say Billings is the top site for a future state forensic mental health facility and backed their claim with a seven‐page memo to local leaders. Billings city council supports the idea but has many questions and is not ready to apply—official details are expected next week—until further information is received.  KTVQ

  • The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Montana will support the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on October 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—a measure designed to reduce the risk of prescription misuse across Montana, with many law enforcement agencies hosting collection points.  KULR8
