COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Billings activist Elizabeth Klarich, who organized the ‘No Kings’ protest, and Kevin Moser, who led a gathering to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk, are working to bridge political differences as Election Day nears. Both stressed that peaceful protests and respectful dialogue are key to a safer and more united community—without resorting to violence.  KTVQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • NorthWestern Energy and Black Hills Corporation are moving forward with a merger that will not change energy service or rates for local customers—local operations remain managed locally. The companies submitted the merger plan on Monday and now await regulatory approvals, with the transition expected to finish in late 2026 or early 2027.  KULR8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Laurel chef Miguel Hernandez of La Taqueria placed fifth in the sandwich category at the 2025 World Food Championships in Indiana this past weekend. He competed against 22 teams in the finals—his traditional Mexican milanesa torta earned him a strong finish.  KTVQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Billings School District 2 reassigned a Skyview High teacher after he posted about Charlie Kirk on his private social media account amid safety concerns. Union president Lance Edward said the move is dangerous because it sets a harsh precedent that could lead to more reassignments when teachers face threats.  KTVQ
  • NonStop Local and Black Hills FCU have partnered to support school libraries by funding book purchases at local schools. John Martin recently donated $2,000 at Lewis and Clark Middle School—students and the librarian were excited, and the program will share more student stories on Wake Up Montana at 5:00 a.m.  KULR8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The USDA announced that it will reopen about 2,100 Farm Service Agency offices today to resume core services with two employees each after a recent shutdown and a $3 billion aid package; the offices will process loans and payments including crop insurance. A Montana farmer at Rodi Farm (Laurel) said the reopening is expected to help restore critical services for struggling farmers.  KTVQ
  • Billings Skyview High School reassigned a teacher after officials reviewed a social media post that mentioned slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a change meant to keep the school environment safe. Families face uncertainty as SNAP benefits may be disrupted in November and state senators have ranked Billings as the best site for the proposed forensic mental health facility.  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Montana State Auditor and Commissioner of Securities and Insurance launched an investigation into Blue Cross Blue Shield after a major data breach exposed personal and medical information of up to 462,000 customers from November 8 to March 5. BCBSMT said it would notify affected customers and offer credit monitoring — officials vowed to use full regulatory authority to protect Montana families.  KTVQ

  • After her Achilles injuries halted volleyball and basketball, Lockwood's Izzabella Weber turned to golf—she played in state tournaments and earned all-state honors by placing 14th in Sidney with a two-round score of 185.  KTVQ
