COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Vincent Regional Hospital donated more than 200 care packages (each containing a stuffed animal and other essential items) to the Billings Police Department, which will distribute them to vulnerable children.  Billings Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The federal government shutdown lasted over three weeks and caused delays for Montana farmers in accessing disaster payments and USDA reports—while some farmers have not seen direct effects. Local Farm Service Agency offices will reopen soon to help ease these economic pressures.  KTVQ
  • The City of Billings installed new pedestrian signals—called Leading Pedestrian Intervals—at seven downtown intersections to give walkers a three-second head start before drivers get a green light. The upgrade uses existing equipment to boost pedestrian visibility and reduce close calls.  KULR8
  • Billings Fire Department got a $280,000 grant from Lowe's to upgrade Fire Station 5. A volunteer workday is set for Tuesday, October 28, at 1:00 p.m. at 605 S 24th St W — local firefighters and leaders will share remarks to thank the sponsor and boost community support.  KULR8
  • The Montana State Auditor investigated Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana after a data breach exposed personal and medical info of up to 462,000 customers between November 8, 2024 and March 5, 2025—state officials then started new cybersecurity steps and urged customers to review their billing records. Blue Cross said it had fixed the issue and offered free Experian IdentityWorks to help affected members.  KULR8

SPORTS NEWS

  • Billings native Jeff Bloomer has been named as GM for the Signal Peak Energy Ice Arena being built at Amend Park. The $16 million arena, set to be completed in spring with two sheets of ice and a restaurant, will bring junior hockey back to town — a boost for local ice sports.  KTVQ
  • Montana State will face Cal Poly at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo—Billings viewers can watch the game on KTVQ and stream it on ESPN+ while the fifth-ranked Bobcats, fresh off a bye week, look to extend their winning streak against a Mustangs team coming off two losses.  KTVQ
