  • In Billings, firefighters put out a vehicle fire at an Albertsons parking lot after three vehicles caught flames at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, and local nonprofit Tumbleweed expanded its 24-hour crisis service for missing and runaway youth with a federal grant. At Red Lodge Mountain, the Triple Chair lift will reopen when ski season begins in a couple weeks — following safety upgrades after a fatal accident last March.  KTVQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eleven Montana small business owners are traveling to Washington, D.C. today to attend the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Summit, the largest gathering of its kind with 2,000 total owners set to meet; they are addressing challenges like the federal shutdown and inflation while surveys show 78% remain optimistic and 72% call for bipartisan action from Congress.  KULR8
  • YesterYears Antique Mall in downtown Billings reopened Tuesday after wastewater from a sewer line flooded its basement and damaged many antiques—vendors refreshed their booths and added a new coffee and candy shop ahead of the busy holiday season.  KTVQ

CRIME NEWS

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens are investigating the poaching of a six-by-six bull elk found off Hawk Creek Road south of Musselshell, with officials saying the animal was killed on the night of October 25 or early October 26 and offering a cash reward for any useful tips.  KULR8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montana's Aquatic Invasive Species team was named Best in the West by the Western Regional Panel for inspecting over 97,000 boats and intercepting vessels carrying mussels and aquatic weeds—laboratory tests analyzed over 2,100 microscopy and 240 DNA samples with no invasive mussels found. Garland Ham Hamilton was specially recognized for his thorough inspections.  KULR8

HEALTH NEWS

  • RiverStone’s exhibit Hidden in Plain Sight, set up like a teenager’s room, helps parents learn how to talk with their kids about vaping and smoking. The exhibit shows the products kids use and gives tips for starting these important conversations.  Billings Gazette
  • Montana public health officials urge residents to get ready for the cold months by getting vaccines and practicing good hygiene to protect against COVID-19, influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). Last season more than 15,600 influenza cases and over 7,500 COVID-19 cases led to many hospitalizations and deaths, and a dashboard will show updates on case numbers weekly.  KULR8
