Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 29th of October.
Good morning, Billings.
🎓 Education
Fairfield native Kyona Yeager earned the American FFA Degree in Indianapolis after years raising and showing cattle, an honor held by less than one percent of FFA members, and she is now pursuing an associate degree in animal science and plans to return to the family 8,000 head feedlot.
🌲 Environment
The EPA plans to test 81 downtown buildings, including Moss Mansion and KTVQ, for PCE and TCE vapors as crews drill to install monitoring ports and sample air with a mobile TAGA lab (Trace Atmospheric Gas Analyzer).
The agency installed mitigation in 400 homes in June and says a cleanup decision could come in 2027 or 2028.
The BLM this week removed nine Pryor Mountain horses (including foals) using bait traps under a 10-year plan to cut the herd from about 200 to 150 to ease land pressure; advocates worry the removals could shrink the herd's unique genetics and want clearer selection and fertility-control criteria.
🏥 Health
Moderna's mRNA flu vaccine mFLUZIA is now available this fall at some Billings pharmacies, including CVS and Albertson's (for adults 50+).
Billings Clinic, Intermountain Health, and Riverstone Health have not stocked it yet, and doctors say don't delay getting a different flu shot.
🏈 Sports
Miles City marksman Jesse Blankenship (known as Hoss Shoer) won a national Single Action Shooting Society championship in Oklahoma and trains with the Montana Territory Peacemakers at the Billings Rod and Gun Club, where members shoot period-replica firearms and emphasize safety.
