Good morning, Billings. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 27th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Billings Kiwanis Club is teaming with Billings high schools to create a record-setting book tree at the Festival of Trees, aiming to surpass $8,000 in auction sales while gathering new and gently used children’s books from community drop-off bins set up at each school. Donations are due Dec. 3, and the festival begins on Dec. 4 — proceeds will benefit a local organization working to prevent child abuse and neglect.  KTVQ
  • Billings businesses helped the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter after an incinerator incident forced the shelter to leave its building in September—Newman Restoration and Cleaning donated money and cleaning services while Blind Cat Chocolate will give part of its November and December sales, and the shelter now offers animal care at Lionheart and medical care at its Learning Center as it raises funds through the Paws and Rebuild campaign to build a new facility.  KULR8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, a new covered parking and shuttle service has opened at the Stillwater parking garage in downtown Billings to help travelers avoid parking challenges and weather damage during the busy holiday season. Manager Whitney Huleatt said drivers will enjoy a seven-minute shuttle ride to Billings Logan International Airport with clear pricing and added security features.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Billings are frustrated by water bill increases after a new billing software caused unexplained charges in summer 2024 — Ed Johnston and Gary Zacc collected over 50 bills to highlight the problem. Although a city audit found no systematic errors, officials plan to add late fees in December and may shut off water in January if bills remain unpaid — causing continued concern in the community.  KULR8
