COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Billings braved snow and cold temperatures to visit the Adult and Teen Challenge tree lot at Faith Chapel, where holiday trees are sold to support addiction recovery and student programs—organizers said the lot will remain open until all trees are sold.  KULR8

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The National Weather Service today issued an advisory on winter driving safety—urging caution as winter accidents cause over 1,000 deaths and 100,000 injuries each year. Drivers must clear snow from their cars and slow down on slick roads—avoiding cruise control and keeping extra distance from snow plows—to help prevent crashes.  KULR8

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Montana dropped 3.3¢ over the past week to an average of $2.95 per gallon as of Monday, Dec. 1 — they are 4.3¢ lower than a month ago but 5.3¢ higher than one year ago.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana Lottery announced a winning ticket with number 131208 — valued at $250,000 — from 620,000 November tickets sold at $20 each; the lottery will hold a grand prize drawing on Dec. 26 where five tickets will win one million dollars each.  KTVQ
  • The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services announced Friday that Laurel became the site for a new 32-bed state mental hospital — a move that surprised officials from competing counties who had submitted proposals. The $26.5 million facility aims to boost care in eastern Montana and awaits more details on its final construction plans.  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Kelli Kolar, a mobile veterinarian in central Montana, advises local horse owners to check their horses' temperatures and avoid large events—after a nationwide outbreak of EHV-1 linked to barrel racing in Texas. While no cases have been reported in Montana, she urged owners to limit horse-to-horse contact until the outbreak subsides.  KTVQ

  • Fresh snowfall in Montana has helped local ski resorts and Billings shops prepare for winter. Big Sky Resort remains open while Showdown Montana plans to open on December 12—boosting excitement for ski enthusiasts.  KULR8
  • Luke Talich of Notre Dame from Cody, Wyo. scored an 84-yard touchdown on Saturday in a 49-20 road win over Stanford when he caught a pass and outran defenders; this play marked his second touchdown in two weeks after returning a blocked punt against Syracuse. His consistent play in every game has made him a key contributor for the Fighting Irish.  KTVQ
  • The school board approved naming rights deals for Daylis Stadium with Scheels set for an expanded track — Underriner Motors will partner for the new field lighting system — and the groundbreaking is set for December 15.  Billings Gazette
