  • About a foot of snow fell overnight and into Friday morning, covering streets, sidewalks, and parks as crews plowed downtown and residents enjoyed sledding at Rimpoint Park — while Lake Elmo State Park remained closed.  KTVQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Snowplow crews from the Montana Department of Transportation are clearing I-90 in Billings today as drivers face low traction and limited visibility, a crash has been reported and crews expect warmer temperatures to improve road conditions by Sunday.  KTVQ
  • A male snowmobiler survived an avalanche near Cooke City on Thursday when six rescuers freed him from two to three feet of snow on the north side of Crown Butte plus local experts urge riders to check avalanche conditions and use proper gear.  KTVQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dude Rancher restaurant reopened today in Billings and serves nostalgic breakfast dishes that draw families back generation after generation.  Billings Gazette
  • Billings Flying Service was sold to Houston-based Quanta Services on Dec. 9. The family-owned company will keep all contracts and employees (sales price not announced) as it gears up to expand its utility and construction support.  KTVQ

CRIME NEWS

  • Rocky Mountain College will hold a vigil in honor of slain student Nila Dawson at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Fraley Lounge, with a memorial service scheduled for the spring semester and counseling services available for students.  KTVQ
  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens are seeking public tips on four whitetail bucks with removed heads dumped on Bureau of Land Management property near Bridger on December 6; anyone with information may contact game warden Frank Blundetto for a cash reward.  KULR8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teacher Clint Mainwaring received recognition from the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools in partnership with Western Security Bank and City Brew Coffee today when he was awarded a $500 grant + a $150 gift card for his engaging social studies classes.  KTVQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Gianforte signed House Bill 210 that will reduce unemployment insurance tax rates for more than 32,000 local businesses in 2026. The cuts include a 0.2% reduction and a zero-percent rate for some employers, saving an estimated $23 million.  KTVQ

  • Rocky Mountain College’s head football coach Chris Stutzriem resigned Friday (after seven seasons) to pursue another coaching opportunity; interim coach Teague Blome has been named and an announcement of his next role is expected next week.  KTVQ
  • Billings West tight end Matt Ludwig committed to play at Texas Tech after he was released from his letter of intent with Michigan following coach Sherrone Moore's firing. He announced his decision on social media (using the message 'Guns up!') and praised Texas Tech's staff as family.  KTVQ
