ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An early Tuesday morning fire in Lockwood off of Johnson Lane destroyed a home and killed four pets—leaving homeowner Valerie Ellis hospitalized after trying to rescue them and losing all her belongings including her business.  KTVQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montana's First Lady Susan Gianforte has joined NonStop Local and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Montana to run a Giving Tuesday book drive for children from newborns to five. The Connect Center will open tomorrow—volunteers will answer questions and sign up families for free book deliveries.  KULR8
  • On Giving Tuesday, families in Billings and across Montana embraced the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a program that sends free, age-appropriate books each month to children from birth to five. Local parent Melanie McKee said her daughter feels excited when she gets a book + the program helps young readers develop early skills.  KULR8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Billings Streets Division is still working to clear icy roads after the first heavy winter storm of the year using plows, salt and sand as extra snow and a flash freeze made streets dangerous. The crew is focusing on busy routes such as Zimmerman Trail and Skyway Drive—covering over 1,200 miles of city streets.  KTVQ
  • Local officials will begin installing new safety features at the busy Mary and Bitterroot intersection this week after several serious crashes and long-standing neighbor concerns. City, county and state teams chose improvements like larger edge-lit stop signs and reflective stop bars to boost visibility—some residents worry that more changes may still be needed.  KTVQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Randy Searer, a 61-year-old Montana auctioneer and rancher, met the family of his life-saving liver donor, Nikki Leep—who died last September in Billings after a brain aneurysm—in a heartfelt reunion in late November. He reached out in 2025 after receiving his transplant and the meeting strengthened support for organ donation—uniting two families with deep agricultural roots.  KTVQ
  • Montana health officials urge residents to check their vaccination records after two measles cases were confirmed and one person was exposed in Gallatin and Missoula counties. RiverStone Health advises anyone who visited public places to monitor symptoms until Dec. 19—contacting a provider if signs develop.  KTVQ
